A Steam Wallet card adds funds to your Steam account for games, add-ons and other items on Steam. If you are in Nigeria and want to buy one online, here is what to check and how to redeem it.
What a Steam Wallet card can be used for
Steam Wallet funds can be used on Steam for games, downloadable content, in-game items, software and Community Market purchases. According to Steam Support, Wallet funds cannot be moved or gifted to another Steam account or withdrawn.
What to check before you buy
- The seller is legitimate: buy from official stores or established platforms, never from strangers on social media
- Denomination and price: prices in naira change with exchange rates, so compare on the day you buy
- Currency and region: Steam adds funds in your Wallet’s existing currency; if you have never had a Wallet balance, Steam may ask for your address to set the currency. Check the card’s region and Steam’s guidance before buying, especially for cards from other countries
- Delivery: how and how quickly the code is sent
- Refund policy: many sellers do not refund gift codes once delivered
How to buy on SnappyPay

Steam Wallet codes vs game activation keys
These are different and are redeemed in different places:
- Steam Wallet code (gift card): adds money to your Steam Wallet balance. This is what a Steam gift card contains.
- Game activation key (product key): unlocks one specific game or add-on in your library. It does not add money.
How to redeem a Steam Wallet code
- Find your code: on a physical card, gently scratch the back; for a digital card, check your purchase confirmation
- Sign in to Steam and go to Steam’s official Redeem a Steam Wallet Code page (store.steampowered.com/account/redeemwalletcode)
- Enter the code and continue
- Check your balance: Steam Support says your Wallet balance is shown at the top right, next to your profile name
If you have never had a Wallet balance before, Steam may ask for your address to set your Wallet currency.
Game activation keys (if you bought a game rather than a gift card)
Game keys are activated through the Steam client’s product activation option, not the Wallet code page. Follow the instructions supplied with the key.
Avoiding Steam card scams
- Never give a Steam code to someone you have not paid or who asks for it as “payment” for something else
- Real Steam staff will never ask for your code or password
- Be cautious of prices far below the card’s value
